The Pledge is a fun and exciting novel. Sweeping descriptions of scenery add to the authentic historical feeling of the story. The hero and heroine are traditional. Gillian is spunky yet stubborn as she ends up making some poor decisions. Ms. Hunter’s Scottish romance is sweet and classic.

One of the newest trends at sites like myspace.com, and facebook.com, and gather.com, is to create a website for your blog. The website www.bebo.com has a 'book' feature built in that lets writers build a website for their book, feature it, and then link it to their bebo websites.

Not all free site hosts are equal. I have checked all sites mentioned above, and they all are searchable by google.

Update on My Book - The Pledge

I am editing my book for Enspiren Press. This is hard. They are not worried about the story as much as they are worried about what the reader 'experiences' while reading the story.

I'm learning a lot. I thought I was great at 'showing' but I've found a lot of passive in my work.

I think it is making the characters better. Calum is more 'solid' now. He was a great hero before, but I think the rewrite has made him more intelligent and intellectual. I know this doesn't seem 'real' in a 1550 Laird, but it does make him more 'hero like' and even stronger.

Gillian hasn't changed much, but she is less a survivor and more a woman. There have been some great changes that softened her, and gave her a chance to think about what she wants. I hadn't thought too much about her wants and needs. I was more concerned with her being 'Lady of the Manor' and helping her people survive.

This is a mainstream, not a romance, so even though they marry, the story isn't lost in the lust. One thing, they kept my visualization, which I think brings the story to life.

I'm really excited about this. The closer I get to publication, the more nervous I grow. Books really do take on a life of their own.

Heros

I am editing The Pledge for a new publisher. I am having fun comparing older versions of historicals from the new. I do not want to betray fan's loyalty to Calum, but I do want offer something new.

I've taken some liberties with the facts in this novel. While the northern Baron's did plan to remove the 'Bastard Elizabeth' from the throne of England, and free Mary Queen of Scot to take her place as the queen of both countries, it had nothing to do with politics. Elizabeth was a heretic of the new religion, Mary was Catholic.

I love writing about this time. It is a time that can capture the imagination. Not only were political forces running rampant, for the first - and last- time in history, three women ruled the world - Elizabeth in England - Mary in Scotland - and the Regent Queen Mercili in France. Their intrigue and competition is enough to fill a dozen books.

However, there was also the plague, and the constant battle between Protestants, Catholics, and a new, little understood evangelical movement that reeked of witchcraft. Among all this, was a new awareness of romance and women's rights. For the first time women wondered 'if I am weak minded because I am a women - then why do three queens rule successfully?'

It is a wonderful time, and I hope to bring it alive in both The Pledge, and the book set much earlier The Pawn.
